How to Enter a Show |
Your journal contains a listing of dog shows to be held in the coming few months under the heading 'SHOWANDTRIALDATES'
Check to make sure that your breed will be judged at the Show.
(ie. Check to see if your breed or your Group is listed beside a Judge's name.)
Some Shows are only for a single Breed, Group or Combination of related Breeds.
You can get some idea of how big a Show will be by looking at how many Groups are listed for each Judge to judge, and how many Judges there are at the Show.
The more Groups a Judge will be judging, the smaller the show will be. If a Show lists Judges doing only part of a Group (ie. Gundogs A - G) the Show should be quite large.
The more Judges there are for a Show, the bigger the Show will be.
When you are looking for your first Show, it may be a good idea to enter a smaller Show.
If you live in a highly populated area, this may mean that you might have to head to one of the surrounding Country Shows.
You will need to decide which option is best for you.
You will need to decide:
Which Show to enter? Which class to enter?
And you will need:
Your dog's Registration Papers The Show Schedule
To fill out an entry form copy the information from your dog's registration certificate into the appropriate spaces on your entry form. As in this Example
Please note
Because such large number of entries are received, if an entry form is incorrect it may be returned without you being entered.
If you have entered in the wrong class, you may be automatically entered in Open (Class 10 or Class 10A).
Please make sure all details are correct before sending your entries.
Entry forms can be purchased from your local State or Territory Canine Association.
The breed class requirements are listed on the back of the entry forms.
It is a good idea to fill out an entry form with all details minus the specific Show details and keep in a safe place.
Each time you fill out a new entry form you can refer back to the first form.
This makes filling out the subsequent forms much easier as you don't need to keep referring back to your dog's Registration papers.
Pre printed entry forms can be purchased through some Canine Associations. Refer to the Price List in your Kennel Control Journal.
Computer programs that will print out entry forms for you are also available.
Address an envelope to the Show Secretary listed on the Show Schedule
IncludeMake sure that when you post your entry you allow enough time for the letter to reach the Show Secretary before the Close of Entry date.
Your completed entry form
A Cheque or Money Order to cover the cost of your entry (Plus a Catalogue if you wish to order one)
A Stamped Self Address Envelope if you wish your exhibit number returned to you before the show) This is not compulsory, but it is a good idea so that you know that your entry has been received in time and you are indeed entered in the show.
If you do not enclose a SAE then you may pick up your exhibit number from the show secretary's office when you reach the show.
Send your entry to the Show Secretary's Address shown on the Show Schedule.
